When I first meet her, I am greeted by a woman with direct eyes and a firm handshake. Her smile is warm and genuine as she introduces herself: she is Harmony. Instantly, I can see why her clients feel so secure when under her care. She is well-known by her clientele for her straight forward, no-nonsense approach to design development.
With a more formal degree in Psychophysics, Harmony is more of a scientist of design. She uses the elements of neurological science to create spaces that speak to the human psyche, primarily focusing on the needs and special circumstances that surround any environment. The strength in her resume is reflected in her demeanor. She has been applauded for her prescriptive design style and data-oriented approach.
I ask her how science can be combined with art; to many people, the two seem so different. Psychophysics is the science of sensation and perception; the process our five sense use to collect information about the environment which is then sent to the brain. The brain tells the body how to respond physiologically based on the data. My job is to manipulate that, and make it work for our clients. She continues, The art behind what I do, allows me to create the kind of interior that will give our clients the result they are looking for.
Harmonys science is brilliantly combined with her design knowledge, particularly in the areas of spatial perception, color and textiles. Through the use of interior design, Harmony molds the environment in a way that communicates a particular mood or feeling. Imagine a home that is catering to the special needs of a child with ADHD, or a restaurant with the goal of eliciting a particular vibe. With her unique clinical design skills, she is taking design to a whole new level for her clients.
During the interview, she is the quintessential professional. I understand her to be the business mind behind Sprama Design. She confirms, Jo has really placed a lot of trust in what I have done as far as directing the business ops, but I couldnt do it without her. She goes on to speak fondly of Josephine. It occurs to me that these women are more than just business associates. They genuinely care for one anothers achievements.
Harmony has been married to her husband, Sam, for nine years. Together, they reside in the Colonial Park area with their two children.
